With only two days to go, the final preparations for the are almost complete. Bryony and the team spent hours yesterday separating equipment and cooking and packing food into the pulks/sleds ready to fly out on Tuesday. Bryony will be eating over 5000 Calories a day to keep healthy, an arduous task on it’s own, let alone the skiing!
When it comes down to it, what do you feel like most after a day of hard Antarctic skiing at -25°C? I know I’d fancy a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich! Well the Team’s answer to this is a little different. The image here is of Bryony and the team cooking over 40Kg of bacon, and other ingredients to make a highly nutritional and fatty “block” which will freeze when the expedition begins. All that is needed is to cut some of the block and use it as a base for hot meals; something welcome to any Antarctic explorer after a hard days hike!
